We want YOU to weigh in on the elevator project

We want YOU to weigh in on the elevator project:
If you didn’t know, Yacolt received a $195,300 grant for removing architectural barricades for disabled individuals.  The grant was provided to build an elevator at the new Town Hall facility at 202 W Cushman Street.  This will allow the upstairs of the facility to be used as the council chamber room which will provide more seating capacity.

A proposal has been made to enhance the project.  Instead of just building the elevator shaft on the outside of the building and terminating the height of the shaft at approximately the gutter line, the proposal has been made to extend the shaft above the roof line.  The extension could be highlighted as a clock tower or some other focal landmark point for the Town.  Since this decision needs to be made prior to design and engineering, the Town wants to solicit residents input.  The council wants to know what you think.  The basic cost of the elevator project is mainly paid for by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and upgrades considered to be above and beyond a “standard” elevator will be the financial responsibility of the Town.  The Town engineer has estimated an additional cost of $7,500-$10,000 for the upgrade.  The Town currently has approximately $1,000,000 in the general fund and impact fees collected.  Our annual budget is approximately $615,000.
Please contact us and let the council know what you think.  You can call us at 686-3922 or email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
