Dear Governor Gregoire,
With the announcement of the Larch Mountain Correctional Facility closure, the Yacolt Public Works Department is compelled to write this letter in support of retaining the prison. The Larch Mountain Correctional Facility has made a significant difference in the quality of life for the citizens of Yacolt. Not only does it provide manpower for projects, it also employs our residents and local people, who in turn use our businesses.
Larch Mountain letter from Mayor Joe WarrenJanuary 12, 2010
Governor Chris Gregoire Office of the Governor PO Box 40002 Olympia, WA 98504-0002
Dear Governor Gregoire,
On behalf of the Town of Yacolt I am writing this letter to show our support for keeping Larch Mountain Correctional Facility open. The Town of Yacolt and its citizens depend on the Larch Mountain Correctional Facility for employment, public works staff support, and ongoing protection for devastating wild fires. Not only will 170 people lose their jobs in a time when there are not many jobs out there, but we will lose the ability to utilize work crews in our Town. I-5 Corridor Reinforcement ProjectDecember 2, 2009 BPA The Town of Yacolt has in the county's current Growth Management Plan 320 acres of urban reserve which encompasses the current Growth Boundary for the town. Most of this reserve area lies Northeast, East, and Southeast of our town in the Yacolt Valley. The Town's governing body has worked countless hours to ensure that the Town of Yacolt has a viable and sustainable future of growth and economic prosperity. However, we feel that the proposed I-5 Corridor lines may jeopardize the work that the town has done to this point. |
